Let's keep it simple, but let's do it! a silent auction perhaps (in the library?)
One person's "electric puke candle" (ask paloma) may be another person's golden fireside treasure!
Dont give it too much thought. a good gift- a bad one. what have you. just bring it.
Let's generate some cash to support all the extra booze we'll be drinking this winter! see you then

Or do it as an active yankee swap--quick and dirty...
the original idea of the auction was to generate money- I find it hard to beleive anywone would pay for my puke candle!!!! Perhaps we are talking about two differnt things- a "Brutal Yankee Swap" (Danny's team does this and the gifts really are brutal) and a silent austion with stuff that people will actually shell out for?
yes- i was thinking the auction would generate money too- so yes- bring good stuff all. And who knows, i think that candle may be a hot ticket item. ;)
brutal swap might be fun too. i'd say, bring some good sellable silent auction stuff- and if you have it, the bad and the ugly too. We can see what we have when we're there.
Mim and I are up for either a silent auction or a swap, or both. I think this group could dig up some great yankee swap items, but we do still want to raise some money-- and I like the idea of the auction being an ongoing thing. I can help with some of the auction logistics (I love a good silent auction!!!) if that would be helpful-- bid sheets, set-up, etc.
great, jen, I confess i don't know anything about the logistics of the silent auction format!
In a silent auction the items up for auction are left out on display, for a given period of time, with a piece of paper for each where you can place a bid presumably at your leisure..... (ie Hayley $5.00)...then someone else comes along after you and writes a better bid ($Jen 7.00) until the acution closes- the last bid on the paper is the winner/buyer!
