the idea: please post here (in comments) the name and artist of one song that never fails to make you smile, feel buoyant or just improve your mood overall for no obvious reason. Does not have to be goofy or a joke song. It can be any sort of mood shifter. I will find and compile these song for a mood-lifting mix. I would say mood-altering, but I definitely want this to be an upswing, not a bad halluncinatory jag where you are hoping and praying to the deep under gods of the fuzzy salamander that he won't set your homework free. Don't need that. Just happy fucking moments in the dead of winter.
This does NOT have to be anything like "your Favorite song EVER", nor does it have to be THE song you'd bring along to the deserted island or any of that shite. Pick a song that makes you feel better after hearing it. What comes up on the shuffle that just makes you grin? What song do you queue up when you feel the need to dance a little in the kitchen? After a long day, what do you sing along to at maximum volume in the car on the way home?
Choose a song along those lines. Happy. A moment of lightness when otherwise, you could completely and utterly justify darkness. Like, totally.
As we move toward the hardest part of winter, I'd like to put together a lightness mix....so post your faves and I will compile and mail out the mix in a month to whomever contributes*, complete with authentic mamaea-mix magic and collage cover.
i figure if we each post one that will make a jolly mix, and when I say one, I don't mean one from each couple, but one from each individual. Just needing to say that.
*ha. so there. you don't get it unless you play. all thanks to PLo for totally inadvertanly inspiring me to insist that she seek such song, which made me think of making a mix like this.

Brilliant!!Oh-0 What a treat!!!! I haven't checked the blog all week and so it it so lovely to check it out and find all this activity!!!
So, I LOVE Ea's invitation- it lightnened my night so much the other night when she suggested it to me-....and I am thrilled to see her take the "assignment" to the next level- so my song is: Chris Williamson- "Song of The Soul" (which I was inspired to legally purchase today again as my cassette is pretty obsolete and I can give you a copy for the mix) Let's make sure everyone contributes- will you send an email with your message to everyone, Ea?
When it comes to the liner notes- Could everyone write a little liner note to go with the choice they made? It would be lovely to have that to add. xoxoxox
Jenyy JJ- no fair!!!!! Ok, play fair and please pick one song for EA's mix ..............but then be sweet and send me a copy of ALL your other choices for my birthday present (I SO enjoyed your Itunes mixes in the kitchen last weekend and I was bummed I never got to burn any) Love you!
All the songs I listed just make me freakin' smile. I think it's about being able to remember to laugh at myself & the crap that's going on around me at any given time (My-My, Oh Yes!, shed those doughty feathers and fly). It's also about one of my favorite pastimes-- breaking things down to the lowest common denominator-- simple but profound pleasures-- Tell Me somethin' good; chicken soup; plain warm devotion; running from mischief.
Part of it is the upbeat noise of it, too-- one of the weird aspects of the job I had before this one was that, along side all the heavy science and running the big scary machinery, you also had to mop floors -- ABBA & Janis were two that even the tough guys were always willing to belt out while we knocked out room sans to make it go by faster & funner (as long as Management wasn't around).
If Ea picks one from my list, I'll do a quick byline for that one.
Palo! Yes-- someone else has to choose for me-- I thought maybe Ea could choose 1 song that also makes her smile, or that just goes well with everyone else's picks. If forced to at the end, i will pick one-- it's up to Ea.
Yes! I will send you this & the other mixes from this weekend-- I bought more cds today at BJs for that purpose-- it will take me a little while, but that's the plan!
Love back at you!!
HAYLEY-- I am LOVING the Women Mixes-- thank you thank you thank you!!
