Rooms, Chores, TV.....

OK, here goes my first ever time "blogging"...wowee.... thanks so much JJJ, etal for organizing the list, etc..
CHECKOUT- I have 2 calls into Mimi to see if we can stay later than 11:00 on Sunday but haven't heard back yet.
SMALLER INDOOR SPACE/TELEVISION, ETC;
I know we have had a few informal conversations about this- but just to put out there that it is going to be really different with all of us inside and smaller kiddos, etc. For me, it feels important NOT to have the TV on all the time, as it can be is during the summer. Can the kids bring DVD's to play on a laptop elsewhere or other thoughts/ideas?

CHORES: a couple things- on the chores- does being a meal captain count as a chore, etc (that's a blatant plug from me:))? I am noticing the gender breakdown of who has been doing the planning/organizing and while I think it is fine for the women to take on more of the nurturing roles as we have chosen to do, but I also want to be sure that the boys have jobs and know where/how to take up the slack once we are on site!

ROOM ASSIGNMENTS: Here is what I have for assignments- does this look ok to everyone?
-Anna/Chris/Max: Downstairs room with sink
-Rob and Paloma: upstairs corner room
-JJJ/John/Stasha: upstairs/two bed (formerly known as crib room)
-Mark/Hayley/Otis: Architect's suite
-Ea/Tawney/Avery upstairs corner/two double beds and couch in upstairs hallway
-Mim/Jen: downstairs twin bed room with beds pushed together
-William: upstairs single twin

THEO: As we will be indoors, we will need to determine parameters for how/where/when to entertain this special house guest.

okay you two--take it to your room for a tandem nap. jeeze.

TV: Informally, no one has objected to the concept that TV downstairs is by consensus of the group...so if anyone has issues with that, tough cookies.

one other thing: Avery and I will bring BOTH our ihomes for ipod music in the kitchen and back parlor. if other ipod folks were inclined to put together 'music to play cards by' or 'music to eat chili by' type mixes for the weekend, that would be fun.

Ea-- awesome on the ipod docking stations-- will either accomodate my 80 GB video pod? If not, I'll plan to bring my new (very small) docking station for one of those sites as well-- let me know! The boombox hit the bricks yesterday-- so sad! So time!

Paloma!! You are a goddess. I have several replies to you--
TV--
I agree that having the TV on all the time would be a serious drain to my psyche & it would be nice to be able to use that space for holding actual conversations. I'll bring my laptop & DVDs. That being said, of course folks will want to TV sometimes & I get that (may even join in), but I'm hoping we'll take this time to actually hang out together & play outside more than zone in TV land. I'm not bringin any gaming system-- sleds instead! Anyone who wants to bring DVDs and use my laptop is more than welcome to.

CHORES:
Yes, being a meal captain counts as a major chore (you have no other assignments other than your two big dinners, thank you very much, along with the task list we all need to pitch in for on Sunday)

Part of the very reason for the chore list is so that folks who are happy to help out, but who are less aware of what needs to be done will have some direction, and then they can go back to not worrying about it. My hope was to prevent some of us hypervigilant nurturing types from having to get upset with the more relaxed of our party (boys and girls alike). My goal is loving harmony, chica, and may I point out that your beloved husband emailed and volunteered for a few chores (no slacker Rob! Actually, lots of folks emailed & volunteered)If anyone is unhappy with the way the chores fell out, please feel free to rearrange with folks-- I did my best to be fair & equitable, all things considered, but am certainly not personally attached to the way I shook it out & am happy to see it rearranged to better suit people as needed.

ROOM ASSN'S--
Looks good to me

THEO--
I forgot about the chilling logistics of Theo! While I hate to be mean to the poor guy, would it be acceptable to house him in the basement, or the breezeway (noted times to keep the kids away)? It's really important that Stash not be exposed to it and that the smell of it not come home with him. Any ideas on acceptable solutions??

JJJ (and all)-re theo: in the house anywhere is not an option, IMO (not even breezeway). Those who wish to partake may do so in the least visable/smellable place available...like it means they are taking lily for a romp or going for a walk. It isn't going to be all that cold (in the 30's) so i don't think that will be a problem as long as the 'behind the barn' crowd is somewhat subtle when they all head out to the back 40 or wherever.

and re: the ipods...if you wish to bring yours and know it works for the bigger pods, by all means, bring yours and we will only bring one. i think i was assuming no one else had a docking station avec speakers. not that you aren't bringing enough crap already..:)

I totally concur on the Theo issue- let's be sure everyone is on the same page. As for chores I wrote my comment before I saw your list JJJ- which looks perfect- thanks!

Thank you guys-- that's a relief on Theo!
Ea-- I just got the docking thing for xmas (LOVE IT!!)-- am behind on the techno stuff, but deeply in love with it. As for crap, John says I'm not allowed to use the truck when we go away because I always expand to overflow whatever space I'm given. He's right, but he's relented & is bringing the sleds (hehe). With the boombox & cds gone, I think a full 1/8 of the car is freed up!

Speaking of music... I'm bringing my laptop, and the cds I am making for the singing PorterHillians are bigger than I thought-- I'l still burn cds for those who want/need them, but if you guys want to bring your ipod cables & just load the playlists, that would be very cool.
