Meal Plan for PH 11

TURN IT UP TO 11! (ala Spinal Tap)

Friday night grill/variation (note: leftover salads to be consumed for lunches):

For sure:

Potato salad

Corn bread? (might save for a bonus night? w/ mim’s chili?)

Green salad

Chips & dip

Corn on cob

Got gingham? Wear it!

Vote:

Burgers & dogs OR

BBQ pulled pork & grilled chicken a la Mim

(I don’t care either way-- I’m also happy to bring the pork for a bonus day to fulfill the cravings, just need a smidge of freezer space, & we’ll get some Mimsy chicken on burrito night-- so vote with impunity!)

Saturday breakfast-- help yerself to lite fare (cereal, yogurt, fruit, bagels)

Saturday lunch-- Beanie, if they are willing (that takes care of Palo’s lunch cravings), if not, we’ll revisit.

Saturday night Tuscan--

Last year we had--

Grilled veggies, roasted peppers, asparagus, tons of cheeses, Italian cold cuts, tortolini salad, anna’s yummy bean dip, many pickled thingys, bread, mozzarella & tomatoes, strangelopreti, what else?

What I’m hearing is better organization, a pretty outdoor meal, but with fewer grazing type foods. Maybe a central pasta dish, a cheese or two (period), bread & green salad? Perhaps one platter of antipasto? The pasta could be veg-based -- something simple, or do a veg pasta and either a grilled meat or a meat pasta so we take care of all the food aversions, but still keep it simple. Wine would flow…regardless…

Sunday-- big lazy late breakfast with scrambled eggs & bacon, maybe some sausage & whatever else-- fruit, bloody marys, bagels/toast, juice, potatoes.

Lunch-- snack cakes & jelly beans-- you just ate for Christ’s sake…

Sunday night-- burrito heaven

Monday--

Lite Breakfast again

On-yer-own lunch Leftovers

Monday night, whoever captains the meal decides how to deal with the leftovers (heat ‘em up & put ‘em out), or starts fresh (chili & corn bread? Steak tips? Mac n cheese with ham & peas & crunchy topping?).Chicken soup?

Eggs benedict to order at some point in the week-- you decide...

My vote for the ho down night meal is pulled pork and grilled chicken.

Friday night: pulled pork & chix.

If people are really hankerin' for burgers & dogs, we could bump chix to burrito night & do pulled pork, burgers & dogs for ho-down (includes veggie burgers).

Chili: a bonus night.

Yay!

I also think Ho Down on Friday sounds like a swell idea. Who wants dogs when there's pulled pork?

I also want to say I liked the antipastos for Tuscan night and the finger food. My recollection was we also had roast beast of some sort, salads, and a pasta dish or two. Maybe I could do a lasagne ahead of time and freeze it...

I think the first year Jaylin did a marvelous grilled lamb that was divine, and last year we had roasted chickens-- also lovely, comforting, and versatile-- Lasagne sounds great!!! I'm game for whatever you guys want to throw out there!

I was thinking that one of the things that might make the Tuscan meal easier to pull off (therefore more enjoyable)-- what would you think about having the table set up on the big area right outside the front door? Nice views of the pond from there & more easily accessible for set up & clean up, moving furniture & multiple platters...?

Yes, I like that idea, JJJ. Would ease the set up effort.

how about burgers, pulled pork, BBQ tofu?

I would be happy with any variation, but would lean towards pulled pork and chicken (and gingham!) for festive-but-easy.

if the bean isn't on for sat, we can certainly make do with some simple cold cuts.

I am HAPPY to contribute cornbread. Best thing ever.

FRI:

maybe just a *few pieces of mims marinated chicken could be cooked (for us non=porkies) and the rest could be cooked fresh sun. for burritos.
- love that cornbread!

SAT: mark- make a lasagne! that sounds great. i think it will be good to have a yummy main dish, so we all dont Overperform the other foods in some kind of twisted insecurity that there WONT BE ENOUGH FOOD! :)
i'm still psyched to make the artichoke bean dip, pesto tortellini salad, (both cheap and fairly easy)
hayley- the ghost bread, yes? and much basil..

my votes so far ;)

I think that sounds great! I'll update the new sheet for menus I added to the common items site...
I think the lasagne should be a veggie one, or with chicken-- is that kosher?

Marky-Mark-Mark--
What kind of lasagna are you making? I was initially thinking it should be geared toward non-red-meat-eaters, but that's silly-- what's your favorite kind to make? We can do a second simple thing for whoever isn't covered by your culinary masterpiece...can't wait! Started packing boxes... making an auction item...

Hayley... are you game for co-captaining the brunch again? we're not gettinga lot of action on the docs list... maybe I should email the table for chores & meals in a round robin??

JennyJJ said...

actually-- never mind! John wants to do brunch together-- we'll need a third, of course, and would love to have you, but you're off the hook if you want to sleep in-- we'll induct Stash if that's the case!

Ok, I am finally geting into the swing of things- I am up for Burrito night, Ea and William are we on for the usual?
Also, I will get snacks as usual-I'll send a RFP for special requests!

Howww-Di!

Yes to co-capt B-Night with PLo and Williamage.

Got my gingham in Ca. Avery got a cool embroidered western theme shirt too. Yeee-HA!

Omigod--had the most amazing HOMEMADE corn tortillas in CA last night. Insane. Can't replicate those, unfortunately, but will throw my heart into our feast per usual.

JennyJJ said...

I SO can't wait!!!!! I'm especially excited for a new opportunity to use the cowboy hat I bought for the last work theme party-- recycle, reuse...
Does anyone know if Jeff is bringing lunch for Saturday or not?

Paloma said...

Jeff is on for lunch Saturday! He will bring paper goods and tortillas. They do not have a good source for coffee anymore- so someone else will need to get that.

Hi! Anna, Chris, Mark and I are on for Tuscan Feast night, and as for brunch . . . I'm happy to help with that as per usual, JJJ. Let's connect about details.

Palo had a great question-- what will Max & Otie be doin' while you're cooking dinner?
