Whiskey Tasting Tapas Night

Smoky, sweet, peaty, peppery, spicy, woody: all words I found on the interwebs to describe whiskey tastes. Haven't you always wanted to sample multiple types of scotch, Irish whiskey, or bourbon, but didn't want to spend $15 or more per tiny glass? Here's your chance.

On Friday night will be the first Porter Hill whiskey tasting. But we need some audience participation to pull this off -- in other words: help procuring the golden elixir.  If you'd like to participate, please find a whiskey pal and pair up to bring one bottle (a full bottle per person seemed excessive). Your bottle is your ticket to participate.

Whiskey tasting is completely optional and a separate expense from regular Porter Hill. Please don't include it with your PH receipts. We suggest bottles under $50, but hell, if you want to bring a bottle of 50 year old Balvenie that retails for the low, low price of $37,000 -- go ahead.

When you've chosen the whiskey you're going to bring, please note it here in the blog so that no one else gets the same kind. It would be an unfortunate coincidence if we ended up with 6 bottles of that same Balvenie 50.

Great idea. I've been waiting for an excuse to buy Whistlepig Rye (rye, the original go-to whiskey in America, is making a comeback after ceding to corn grain during the depression). It's about $60 a bottle. A rye would be a nice addition to scotches and bourbons. Who'll go halfsies?

As for tapas, teriyaki beef strips would go nicely Also pork ribs, with say garlic olive oil, salt and pepper - Ie, without big bbq flavor-spices. I'll take on getting those.

Hey Chris--I am making Korean style pork country ribs (very meaty) for this meal. Glad we're on the same meat wavelength!

Count me in for whisky tasting! I've got a bottle of Ardmore single malt scotch (little smoky, but not too much).

I have it on good authority from Seamus Halfpenny (not kidding) that redbreast 12 is a good one, just picked it up!
